Who am I?

I’m Nish, a GP trainee in Cambridge. I’m a new mum on maternity leave, and trying to find a space to record some new reflections as I enter a new chapter. I love to write and have done so for many years in various guises. So if nothing else, this blog feeds my hobby!

I would like to dedicate this site to 2 people who taught me a very important lesson early in my life.

The first is my aunt, Usha, who loved reading anything I wrote growing up. She would take me to the bookshop on a Saturday and let me choose any book I wanted... and I was like a child in a sweet shop, mesmerised by the colours on the shelves and cradling the little treasure I took home. She instilled a love of books in me which has turned into a love of writing. She sadly passed away from breast cancer at the age of 42, when I was 11.

The second is my Year 6 teacher, Mr Dodsworth. I will never forget him looking me in the eye at the age of 10 and telling me I had a gift for writing. I refused to believe him, but the kindness of those shining eyes have stayed with me ever since. I was sorry to hear of his passing in 2016. I am not sure he will ever know the fruits of the seeds he sowed for so many children.

Both of these people taught me something I will never forget: other people's belief in you is gold dust
